Love after love

I am not a real poetry lover but I found this poem in a book last night and I can't remember last time I read something so beautiful. I wanted to share it with you. It also inspired me for my post, that and Valentine's day on Monday. So, say or think what you want (I am a bit of a cynic myself, at times) but we ALL want love, we all need it and desire it dearly. We want to give it and receive it and it's probably the best feeling in the world. And there is plenty going around, in real life and in this odd virtual world of ours.

Love after love

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
